Zombie Kill Zone

About this game

Zombie Kill Zone is a free 3D first-person zombie shooter that runs straight in your browser. There is nothing to download and nothing to install: open the page, type the name you want to see on the leaderboard and press Play. Within seconds you are standing in a walled yard in the middle of a dark city, a pistol in your hand, while the first zombies shuffle in through the gates. Your goal is simple to explain and very hard to master: survive as many waves as you can, kill as many of the undead as possible and earn a place on the global leaderboard alongside players from all over the world.

Zombie Kill Zone is our own game, built by the Quasova Play team especially for this site. It uses modern WebGL graphics through the Three.js engine, real animated 3D characters, first-person weapon models with their own firing, reloading and equip animations, and a full set of sound effects and music. The result is a game that feels much closer to a downloadable shooter than to a typical browser game, while still loading quickly and running on ordinary computers and mobile phones.

The whole battle takes place in one carefully designed arena: a large square yard, roughly eighty metres across, surrounded by a concrete wall with a gate in the middle of each side. Tall apartment blocks with lit windows rise all around under a deep red evening sky, and old street lamps throw pools of light across the rough ground. The yard is far from empty. Shipping containers in red, blue, green and yellow, abandoned cars under dusty covers, stacks of wooden crates, concrete road barriers, old tyres and burning barrel stoves are scattered across it. The layout is open in the centre and ringed with cover in every direction, with clear lanes leading from each of the four gates.

That layout is not just decoration; it is the key to your survival. Containers and crates block the zombies' path and give you a moment to breathe. Cars and barriers let you put an obstacle between yourself and a group of attackers, and long open lanes give you a clean line of fire when you need to thin out a crowd. Learning the arena, knowing where the gaps are and where you can get trapped, is the first step from beginner to expert.

The undead come at you in waves. Each wave sends more zombies than the last: the first wave starts with a handful, and every new wave adds three more to the count. Some walk in through the four gates, while others climb straight over the wall at different points along the perimeter, so you can never assume that danger is coming from just one direction. When you finish off the last zombie of a wave, the banner announces that the wave is cleared, you receive a bonus of 250 points multiplied by the wave number, and you get a five-second break before the next wave arrives. Those five seconds are precious: use them to reload, pick up supplies and choose a better position.

There are three kinds of zombie, and each one demands a different response. Walkers are the classic undead: slow, steady and dangerous in groups, worth 100 points each. Runners appear from the second wave onwards. They have less health than walkers, but they sprint towards you at frightening speed, so you have to spot them early and drop them before they reach you; each one is worth 150 points. Brutes are the giants of the horde. They are bigger, slower and hit much harder than anything else, and they can absorb an enormous amount of damage before they fall. Defeating a brute earns 400 points. Brutes can start to appear from the fourth wave, and every fifth wave is a special wave announced with the warning that brutes are incoming, when far more of them join the attack.

The horde also grows stronger as time goes on. With every new wave the zombies have more health, and up to the fifteenth wave they also become a little faster. Early waves give you time to settle in and learn the controls, but the further you go, the more every shot, every reload and every step matters.

A typical run follows a clear rhythm. The first wave is a gentle warm-up of walkers, perfect for getting used to the controls with your pistol. From the second wave the first runners join in, and clearing it rewards you with the shotgun. The third and fourth waves mix walkers and runners in larger numbers, and once the fourth wave is behind you the assault rifle is yours. By then the first brutes may already have shown up, and the fifth wave is the first real test: a brute wave that forces you to use everything you have learned. After that the challenge simply keeps rising, wave after wave, until the horde finally overwhelms you. How long you last is entirely up to your skill.

You start every run with only a pistol. It is accurate, it reloads quickly and, most importantly, it never runs out of reserve ammunition: you only need to reload its twelve-round magazine. It is the weapon that will always be there for you when everything else is empty. When you clear the second wave, the shotgun is unlocked. It fires eight pellets with every shot, which makes it devastating at close range and perfect for dealing with a zombie that has got too close, but it holds only six shells and fires slowly. When you clear the fourth wave, the assault rifle is unlocked. It is fully automatic, carries a thirty-round magazine and is the best all-round tool for the dangerous middle and late waves.

Ammunition for the shotgun and the rifle is limited, which adds a layer of strategy to every fight. Fallen zombies sometimes drop supplies: an ammunition box that refills your reserves, or a medical kit that restores 35 health points, up to your maximum of 100. Brutes are especially generous and very often leave something useful behind. Walking over a pickup collects it automatically, but grabbing it in the middle of a crowd can be risky, so choose your moment.

Precision is rewarded. Hitting a zombie in the head is a headshot. Shots to the head deal more than twice the damage of shots to the body, so a steady aim brings zombies down much faster and saves precious ammunition. A kill finished with a headshot also adds an extra 50 points and is counted separately in your final statistics. The game also rewards speed through a combo system. If you kill another zombie within two and a half seconds of the previous one, your combo grows, and each step adds ten percent to the points you earn, up to double points for a long chain of kills. Fast, accurate shooting can therefore make a huge difference to your score, even if two players survive the same number of waves.

The arena also contains explosive red barrels, and they are one of the most satisfying tools in the game. Shoot a barrel and it explodes in a ball of fire, damaging every zombie within about six metres. A well-timed explosion can wipe out a whole group at once, and barrels standing close together can set each other off in a chain reaction. But be careful: the blast also hurts you if you are standing within a few metres of it. The barrels return at the start of every new run, so you can plan how to use them again and again.

On a computer, the controls are those of a classic first-person shooter. Move with the W, A, S and D keys, aim with the mouse and click to shoot. Hold Shift to sprint, press R to reload, and switch weapons with the 1, 2 and 3 keys, the Q key or the mouse wheel. Press Esc at any time to pause the game, then resume or quit to the menu. Sprinting is fast but you cannot sprint while reloading, and you move a little more slowly while you reload, so timing your reloads is part of the skill.

On phones and tablets, Zombie Kill Zone switches to touch controls. Your left thumb moves the character with an on-screen stick, and dragging on the right side of the screen turns the camera and aims. A large FIRE button shoots, an R button reloads and a separate button switches between your weapons. On phones and tablets the game also switches to a lighter graphics mode, with fewer zombies on screen at the same time and simpler lighting and shadows, so it stays smooth and playable.

When you finally fall, the game shows your results: your score, the number of kills, the wave you reached and the number of headshots. Your score is then sent to the global leaderboard, and you immediately see your rank among all players. If you beat your own record, the game congratulates you on a new personal best. You can open the leaderboard from the main menu at any time to see the top killers, and your own row is highlighted so you can find it quickly. If the global leaderboard cannot be reached, for example on a poor connection, your result is saved on your device instead so it is never lost.

A few tips will help you climb higher. Keep moving: standing still in the open is the fastest way to be surrounded. Use the five-second break between waves to reload every weapon and collect any supplies lying nearby. Save shotgun shells for zombies that get close and for brutes, and use the pistol to finish off weak targets so your limited ammunition lasts longer. Aim for the head whenever you can, because headshots end fights faster and add points. Watch the gates and the top of the wall, since that is where new zombies appear. Lure groups of zombies towards the red barrels and detonate them at the right moment. And on brute waves, keep your distance, use cover and empty your rifle into them before they reach you.

Zombie Kill Zone is made for anyone who enjoys action games and a real challenge. Every run is different, short enough to fit into a break but intense enough to keep your heart racing, and the leaderboard gives you a reason to come back and try just one more time. Because it runs in the browser, you can play it at home on your computer, on your phone on the go or on a tablet on the sofa, without accounts or installations. The game interface is available in English and Arabic, and you can switch the language from the menu.

Zombie Kill Zone also has its own page in the Quasova Play catalogue, in the shooting category, where you can start the game, like it, read what other players think and leave a comment of your own. If you enjoy it, share it with your friends and challenge them to beat your score: there is nothing more motivating than seeing a friend's name just above yours on the leaderboard.

The game was built with care and with respect for the creators whose work made it possible. The zombie characters and their animations come from Mixamo, the weapon models are by Tasty Tony and Cowsins, the props, sky and ground textures come from Poly Haven, and the music is "The Plague" by indieteur, released under a free licence. All of them are credited on the main menu.

Are you ready to step into the kill zone? Load your pistol, watch the gates and see how many waves you can survive. The undead are already on their way, and the top of the leaderboard is waiting for a new name.
